Being proud young water professionals themselves, the Fewster brothers are passionate about growing today’s youth into tomorrow’s leaders.
We have invested considerable time in our Engineering Development Program that provides exposure for university students to broaden their understanding of the water industry.
Graduates work closely with our leadership team to improve community and business outcomes, while learning from on-the-job training. Each graduate is assigned a project manager as a mentor, to ensure they receive full support and learning opportunities. Programs are tailored individually to ensure a graduate receives the full benefit of a collaborative engineering development program.

Constance Keenan is a third year Civil Engineering and Commerce student at the University of Queensland, where she has been granted a scholarship for her engineering studies. She commenced a position with FB as a part of our undergraduate program in September 2019. Since then, she has been exposed to vast range of projects within water, wastewater and recycled water. She is keen to get involved in all stages of the projects she is on, with a strong drive to expand her knowledge and face new challenges.
“For the past 2 years, I have been working as an undergraduate project engineer for FB. I was offered the opportunity to undertake this program after meeting the Fewster brothers and some of FB’s engineers at a University networking event, where I got a taste of the welcoming and cordial culture of the company.
It has been a very steep but enjoyable learning curve, being given various opportunities of exposure to the industry. This has included quality and safety control, onsite programming and budgeting, interactions with clients and a myriad of other project-specific tasks. FB have been extremely supportive and encouraging of my eagerness to learn, by continually challenging me with new opportunities.”
In 2014, Jay van Manen joined FB as an undergraduate student from the Queensland University of Technology and it was immediately evident to the Fewster brothers, that he had the leadership potential they are so passionate in developing.
Jay was appointed as a project manager in 2019 and now leads his own team notching up success after success. He has made a habit of receiving positive feedback from client-side senior managers, further cementing his position as a future leader in the water industry.
“I started working at FB part-time as an undergraduate during my final year of study at the Queensland University of Technology. It quickly became apparent to me that FB was a company that could offer me a lot of hands-on industry experience, so when they offered me a full time position as a Site Engineer, I was excited to take on the new challenge.
Along with having approachable and supportive Directors, one of the best aspects of working at FB is having experienced personnel within the company that can assist me to hone my skills and expand my knowledge in the industry. I hope to continue to grow in my role as a Project Manager and share in the company’s success in the future.”
